  • Dear colleagues and friends,

It is my great pleasure to invite and welcome you to the meeting "Understanding diabetes in the pharmacogenomic age" to be held in the Andalusian city of Malaga, on the Costa del Sol of Spain during the days 4 and 5 of October 2016. This meeting is the first meeting of the EASD Study Group on Genetics of Diabetes (EASD-SGGD), and has been organized by this study group along with the Spanish Group for the Study of Monogenic Diabetes and the Spanish Diabetes Society.

The aim of the EASD-SGGD is to promote research into the genetic basis of all forms of diabetes (and related conditions), as well as to promote the interaction and transfer of knowledge between basic scientists and the clinical community. Clinicians and researchers must share their different views of the disease and to learn from each other. Therefore the goal of the meeting is to bring together a wide spectrum of clinicians (adult and pediatric endocrinologists, internists, general practitioners, gynecologists) and researchers to share the newest findings in the study of genetics of diabetes, and to discuss the different clinical and treatment approaches of the disease. To this end the program will include state-of-the art lectures given by an outstanding panel of speakers specialized in the field of genetics of diabetes, in addition to gaining insights into in the new and exciting field of pharmacogenomics.

During your stay in Malaga and Costa del Sol you will be able to enjoy an area of incomparable tourist services, excellent gastronomy, wonderful excursions to the “White Villages,” cultural activities such as the visit to the Picasso Museum and, of course, for the golf lovers, plenty of golf courses to play. We look forward to welcoming you in Malaga.
